PostHeaderIcon Weekly Support Groups

Courageous Kids offers weekly support groups for children and families grieving the death of a loved one. Our groups are free of charge and operate solely on donations.  Children, teens and families learn that they are not alone.  Trained facilitators address a theme each meeting.  We use art, drama, games, sand play, writing, and discussion to give voice to thoughts and feelings, tell our stories, ask questions, address life changes and to remember our loved ones.

The groups are divided by age.  Elementary age children (grades K-5) and teens (middle and high school) meet separately and can share their grief with others their own age, who really do understand.

Adult caregivers who bring their children and teens to Courageous Kids meet concurrently.  They give and receive support from other caregivers and learn more from Courageous Kids facilitators about supporting their child's/teen's grief.  All participants, regardless of age, are able to use the “I pass” guideline, which means they may decide when and how much they wish to share with the rest of the group.

The groups are offered fall, winter and spring terms, roughly concurrent with the school year.  If you would like to attend a group, you will need to pre-register and schedule an intake interview with us.  Due to trust building and consistency for the group members, the groups are not open to drop-ins. We also offer phone support and referrals.

Courageous Kids offers support groups at a limited number of schools.  Please call for information.

PostHeaderIcon Suicide Loss Support Group

Courageous Kids offers a support group for people grieving the death of a loved one by suicide.  The group addresses issues specific to suicide, such as trauma, confusion, guilt, stigma, and police involvement. Trained facilitators use discussion, art, sand play, and writing to help families give voice to thoughts and feelings, ask questions, address life changes, and remember our loved ones.

Children, teens and adults meet both together and separately, depending upon the activity.  All participants are encouraged to participate to whatever degree is comfortable for them.  The groups are scheduled when there is enough interest in one.  For more information call Isa Jennings at 541-242-8693.

All of our groups are free of charge and operate solely on donations.
